Strongman is known for having some of the largest humans on the planet lifting some outrageous weights. To lift such huge weights, your body must be a certain size. A large diet containing thousands and thousands of calories will make you gain insane weight, but how heavy are strongman?

In this list we will cover 5 of the heaviest strongman that has competed.

1. Glenn Ross

Glen Ross is well known in the UK’s strongman circuit but never made the heights on the world stage. He is a 5-time winner of the UK’s Strongest Man, winning in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010. He is an accomplished powerlifter who has some impressive records, such as a 400kg raw squat and 400kg raw deadlift.

His weight was astonishing to many, weighing in at 215kg (474 lbs), making him the heaviest strongman. Ross is a large man with an enormous frame, boasting some incredible measurements:

2. Žydrūnas Savickas

Žydrūnas Savickas, known as Big Z, is one of the greatest strength athletes of all time. He won the World’s Strongest Man title 4 times in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2014 while also placing himself in second place 6 times! Big Z has a number of world record lifts in strongman and considered to be a legend in the sport.

Big Z is known for having a large frame, most notably his ‘power belly’ that has helped in many events over the years. He has weighed at a whooping 182kg (401 lbs) when at his heaviest.

Interestingly, Big Z only began to train in powerlifting at the age of 17, breaking all Lithuanian records in just his second competition. His dominance in strongman started in 2002 and was at the top for well over a decade. Savickas won the Arnold Strongman Classic six consecutive times from 2003 to 2008. What a career he had that doesn’t get enough praise! A legend in the sport of strongman.

3. Brian Shaw

Another legend in the sport, Brian Shaw is well known in the strongman community and well credited for the rise of the popularity of the sport because of his Youtube channel. Standing at 6ft 8inches (203 cm), Shaw is well known for literally being a giant. He is a 4 time winner of the World’s Strongest Man, winning in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2016.

Known his love for bison, Brian Shaw weighs in at incredible 175-200kg range (385-440 lbs). In recent years, he has looked more physically slimmer, trying to improve his athletic ability because of his shortfalls in particular strongman events.

Some of his best feats of strengths have been in the keg toss (which he holds the world record) and grip training records. Interestingly, Shaw is one of few men to pinch grip and lift a pair of York 45 lb plates!

4. Eddie Hall

Eddie Hall, also known as ‘The Beast’, is well known for winning the World’s Strongest Man in 2017 and for his social media presence. Nowadays he is sporting a slimmer physique, but at his heaviest and strongest point of his strongman career in 2017, he tipped the scales at nearly 197kg (434 lbs).

The Beast has many impressive numbers in the sport, with his 500kg deadlift and 213kg log lift being two of his biggest highlights. After winning his single strongman title in 2017, Hall decided to retire and to lose his weight to lead a healthier lifestyle. He has mentioned in many interviews that being that heavy is not easy to manage, as he had to consume well over 10,000 calories everyday while napping throughout the day.

5. Terry Hollands

Terry Hollands is another strongman competitor that is well known in the UK. Born in Dartford, Kent, he started strongman training to help on his rugby when he was 22. Standing at 6 ft 6.5 inches (199cm), he was always a monster in size, his birth weight was 12 lbs 14 oz!

Nowadays Hollands is focusing more on bodybuilding after being in the sport of strongman for 15 years. In 2017, Hollands was at his heaviest, weighing in at an astonishing 203kg which he said was unmanageable. He managed to trim his weight down to 165kg the same year and by January 2018, he was at 147kg, his lightest weight ever in strongman. Quite a remarkable weight loss journey!
